Shopping Centres -there
are three main shopping malls in north Quito:
- Quicentro -Avenida Naciones Unidas y Shyris
El Jardin -on Amazons between Mariana de Jesus and Republica
(near Parc Carolina)
El Bosque -in the northwest just off the Occidental and Carvajal
in the north west of the city.
In the south
there is:
- El Recreo.- Address: Av. Maldonado
at the Trole stop (south of the city).
- Food: For large food stores
that stock almost anything, there are a number of Supermaxi stores
around town, or for the biggest selection of all, go to Megamaxi
near Quicentro (6 de Diciembre between Julio E. Moreno and Germán
Alemán). The markets are a great place to buy exotic fruits
and vegetables at giveaway prices -try the Santa Clara Market
to the west of the Mariscal area (Versalles and Ramirez Dávalos).

- You should be able to find
most of your needs around Amazonas and Juan Leon Mera, but do
also look further afield for the better bargains too. On Sundays
you can find paintings on sale by the artists around the edge
of Parque El Ejido, and also a market selling goods from Otavalo.

The best know street in Quito
for tourist souvenirs is perhaps Av Amazonas. However you might
try looking at the parallel street, Juan Leon Mera which has
several interesting shops, including Libri Mundi, Bodega, Galeria
Latina as well as a huge range of cafés and travel agencies.
